Sweetwater Wind 2

Leeward Renewable Energy’s (LRE) Sweetwater 2 project is situated on 13,440 acres in Nolan County, Texas, and initially reached commercial operation in 2005. Originally 91.5 MW comprised of 61 GE 1.5 MW wind turbine generators, we repowered the facility in 2017 together with our Sweetwater 1 project. In the repowering, we left the existing towers in place, replaced the drive trains, and installed longer blades to enhance the turbines’ efficiency and energy production. We increased the capacity of each wind turbine generator to 1.62 MW and the nameplate capacity of the facility to 99 MW. We sell the output from the Sweetwater 2 project to Luminant Energy.
