Project overview

Leeward Renewable Energy’s (LRE) Caprock Wind project is situated on 30,000 acres near San Jon, New Mexico, and reached commercial operation in 2004. With a nameplate capacity of 80 MW, the project is comprised of 80 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries 1000 1.0 MW wind turbine generators, and interconnects to the SPP transmission system. Xcel Energy’s Southwestern Public Service Company purchases the output from the Caprock Wind project under a long-term power purchase agreement.
