Project overview

Our Aragonne Wind project is situated on 14,000 acres near Santa Rosa, New Mexico, and reached commercial operation in 2006. With a nameplate capacity of 90 MW, the project is comprised of 90 Mitsubishi 1000A 1.0 MW wind turbine generators and interconnects to Public Service Company of New Mexico transmission system. Arizona Public Service System purchases the output from the Aragonne Wind project under a long-term power purchase agreement.

Set against a rocky hillside mesa, Aragonne Wind is one of the most scenic wind farms in the U.S. The site is dotted with cedar trees, a variety of high desert plants, and a wide assortment of animals including badgers, deer, coyotes, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and scorpions, and an array of birds. Horses and cows also make their home in the area.

We have recently executed an agreement with our longtime offtake partner, Arizona Public Service, to repower the Aragonne Wind project. Under the APS agreement, we will decommission the existing facility and construct the repowered 90 MW facility using advanced GE wind turbine technology, and will construct the adjacent 145 MW project, Aragonne Mesa Wind. Both projects are slated to enter commercial operation in 2021. To read more about the expanded APS partnership at our Aragonne complex, click here.
